Auckland Council's pleased with water quality results after last week's SkyCity convention centre fire

Auckland Council's pleased with water quality results after last week's SkyCity convention centre fire

Water mixed with contaminants from burning materials flooded into the storm water network, and into the Hauraki Gulf.

Ecotoxicity testing was undertaken by NIWA on samples from the site and the storm water outlet.

Principal Freshwater Scientist Dr Coral Grant says Council's focus is to prevent contaminants from entering the harbour, but it's not always possible.

She says the water results show low to moderate effects.
