The Cake Tin was barely a third full for Sunday's match, while the first and third games in Christchurch and Nelson at smaller venues were close to full capacity.
NZC Chief Executive David White is pleased with the Wellington numbers considering it's the start of the season.
The fourth match in the series is in Napier on Friday.
