Emergency services were called to Chapel Road around 11.30 last night to the single-vehicle incident.
It's thought around five-thousand properties have been affected, although Vector redirected power flows for some customers within 30 minutes of the outage.
A Vector spokesperson says crews are onsite installing a new power pole, which is currently being tested.
Power is expected to be fully restored by 9am.
