An aviation expert says Air New Zealand isn't to blame for cancelled flights

Issues with Rolls-Royce engines on its Boeing 787-9 aircraft mean flights to Perth, Sydney and Tonga between December 10 and January 5 face changes.

Geoff Thomas says the engines have had problems for three years.

He says Air New Zealand isn't the only airline affected.

He says half the world's 787's are powered by Rolls-Royce engines.
