There could be more tornados and golf ball-sized hail for the South Island's East Coast

There could be more tornados and golf ball-sized hail for the South Island's East Coast

A severe storm warning is in place for all Canterbury - as well as North and Central Otago - with Timaru already getting pelted.

NIWA meteorologist Seth Carrier says the conditions are similar to those that caused Monday's tornado in Christchurch.

He says the hot sun is causing rising columns of air - which form serious thunderstorms.
