An aero club is investigating the cause of a fatal plane crash in Canterbury

The pilot, who has not yet been named, was on a routine training flight over Lake Ellesmere last night when the plane crashed.

The aircraft belonged to Canterbury Aero club, where the pilot was a member.

Chief executive Jeremy Ford says they are notifying the next of kin, and there's no immediate indication of the cause of the crash.
