Mitchell Santner's had one of his best days on a cricket field

Mitchell Santner's had one of his best days on a cricket field

The all-rounder's made a maiden test century, hitting 126 to help New Zealand to 615 for nine declared on the fourth day of the first match with England at Mount Maunganui.

He then took three for six from 8.4 overs to have the tourists' 55 for three at stumps in the second innings, still trailing by 207 runs.

If Santner takes two more he'll become the second New Zealander after Bruce Taylor on debut in 1965 to score a century and take a five-wicket bag in a test.

    Santner's 261-run partnership with double-century maker B-J Watling is a seventh-wicket record against all-comers for New Zealand.

Australia has beaten Pakistan by an innings and five runs in their test cricket series opener in Brisbane.

India's beaten Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in their second and final match at Kolkata for a 2-0 series sweep, consolidating their lead on the test championship points table.

Scott McLaughlin's found his most satisfying moment in a year brimming with Supercar achievements.

The Kiwi driver's claimed consecutive titles after the final race in Newcastle, where he finished fourth.

McLaughlin's secured a maiden Bathurst 1000 win, but says setting the record for the most victories is the highlight.

Another defeat in the Australian Basketball League could have a compounding effect for the New Zealand Breakers.

Corey Webster has suffered an ankle injury in their 117-100 loss to the Adelaide 36ers, and was taken to hospital.

Their season record now sits at two wins and eight losses.

Valentine Holmes will return to the NRL next season after signing with North Queensland on a six-season deal reportedly worth $1 million a year.

The Cowboys wasted no time snapping up the former Cronulla player after he was released by NFL franchise the New York Jets.

Golfer Jon Rahm has held off a charge from Tommy Fleetwood to win the World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai on the European Tour.

The 25-year-old's the second Spanish player after Seve Ballesteros to finish the year as European No.1.

A new-look New Zealand men's triple has taken gold at the Multi Nations bowls tournament on the Gold Coast.

Ali Forsyth, Andrew Kelly and Chris Le Lievre have beaten the Australia Greens 16-12 in the final.

The men's and women's pairs of Gary Lawson and Jamie Hill, and Jo Edwards and Tayla Bruce have secured silver.

Spain's taken the opening match of the Davis Cup tennis final in Madrid.

Roberto Bautista Agut has beaten Canada's Felix Auger Aliassime 7-6, 6-3.
