The New Zealand quartet of Bryony Botha, Holly Edmondson, Rushlee Buchanan and Kirstie James have taken 1.6 seconds off the national record in qualifying for the team pursuit.
They top qualifying with world champions Australia second, over a second and a half back.
49er FX sailors Alex Maloney and Molly Meech have made a poor start to gold fleet racing at the world championships in Auckland.
Having started the day in 7th overall, the Olympic silver medalists have slipped to 10th after a 20th place in the latest race.
It's also been a disappointing start for Peter Burling and Blair Tuke who have finished 11th in their first gold fleet race.
They remain second overall but eight points behind the leading Germans who finished fourth.
Brighton have recorded their first away win against Arsenal with a 2-1 victory in English Premier League football.
The result leaves the Gunners 10th overall, five points clear of the drop zone.
Newcastle have beaten Sheffield United 2-nil.
