Australian batsman Steve Smith is hopeful the Melbourne Cricket Ground's ground staff will be able amend the pitch in time for the Boxing Day test with the Black Caps

The Sheffield Shield game between Victoria and Western Australia was abandoned due to safety concerns, after the pitch was deemed unfit to play on, with unpredictable bounce.

When asked whether he thought the pitch could have the same problems for their test, this was Smith's response.



The first test in Perth begins on Thursday.
