An Auckland man accused of murdering a 16-month-old boy can now be named before a trial next year

An Auckland man accused of murdering a 16-month-old boy can now be named before a trial next year

Phillip John Welsh appeared in the High Court at Auckland this morning charged with murdering Malcolm Bell.

The now 52-year-old's interim suppression order has lapsed.

Welsh has already pleaded not guilty and is on bail - but failed to front for this morning's brief procedural hearing.

His lawyer says he was stuck in traffic.

Welsh is due to appear in court again in February, with a trial set down for August.
