Divers continue to search the waters off Whakaari White Island, in hopes to find those still missing after Monday's eruption

Divers continue to search the waters off Whakaari White Island, in hopes to find those still missing after Monday's eruption

A team of nine resumed their search at 7 this morning - and faces unique and challenging conditions.

The water around the island is contaminated, which requires the divers to wear specialist protective equipment.

They have reported seeing a number of dead fish and eels washed ashore and floating in the water.

Each time they surface, they are decontaminated using fresh water.

Visibility is up to two metres depending on location.

The dive operation \has been boosted this afternoon, with personnel from the Navy dive team.
