The Transport Minister says motorists will be extremely happy with more appropriate speed limits

The Transport Minister says motorists will be extremely happy with more appropriate speed limits

The Government's new road safety strategy has a goal of reducing deaths and serious injuries by 40 percent by 2030.

It includes safety upgrades, drug testing equipment and reducing some speed limits.

Julie Anne Genter says there are places where it's perfectly safe to drive 100 kilometres an hour.

But she says in many parts of New Zealand, rural roads in particular, 100 is too high.
