The Cancer Society wants even higher prices for tobacco products, and fewer stores selling them

Today marks the last automatic annual tax increase for tobacco.

Cancer Society advocacy and wellbeing manager Shayne Nahu says the sheer number of retailers selling cigarettes makes it harder for people to quit.

He says poorer communities, where smoking rates are the highest, are being targeted.

Nahu says there are four times more tobacco retailers in low-income communities.
