    Record temperatures are fuelling the Australian wildfires - with one Sydney suburb hitting 48.9 degrees, the hottest place on the planet yesterday


    Sky News correspondent Tom Cheshire has been in the east Victoria coastal town of Lake Tyers , where most people have evacuated.

    But he spoke to pub owner Tony Carroll, who'd stayed behind to look after his property while his firefighter son is on the frontline.

    He says he's worried for his 20-year-old son, and cooked him breakfast and gave him a big hug before he left for the day.
