Cameron Boyce’s parents have recalled the “nightmare” of the actor’s tragic passing

The ‘Descendants’ star passed away at the age of just 20 on July 6 last year after he suffered a seizure in his sleep due to epilepsy, and his parents Victor and Libby have now opened up on the pain of losing their son

Victor explained: “On July 5th, Cameron, my daughter Maya, Libby and I went to dinner. We were sitting outside joking and laughing like we always do, and it was just a really fun night. So dinner was over, I said ‘I love you son’, [he said] ‘I love you dad’.

“And in the morning I get a call from his roommate and then he told me [Cameron had died]. It was like all of a sudden I was in a cloud. I was just … everything just went white. I was losing my mind.”

Cameron’s father got in his car as soon as he heard the news, but didn’t “believe” his son was dead until he arrived at his home.

He added: “I tell my daughter, we’re both screaming and crying. I get on the freeway going the wrong way. I still didn’t believe it. There was no way this was true. It was just a nightmare. I’m not supposed to outlive my son.”

And whilst the family haven’t healed from their tragedy, they are finding ways to “honour” Cameron, including setting up a charity foundation in his name to help combat epilepsy.

Speaking during an appearance on ‘The Doctors’, Libby said: “This is not something you get better from. This is something that you learn to live with. And you [need to] celebrate it and find ways to honour him, which is how we’re approaching it.”
