Police are investigating two fatal crashes near Taupo - one involving a fleeing driver

Just before midnight, Police were called to a fatal crash at Rotokawa.

As officers were conducting a scene examination on Broadlands Road, a vehicle was driven past the crash site at high speed.

Police gave chase - but say, less than 30 seconds later, the vehicle crashed through a fence, killing one of two people in the car.

    The survivor has moderate injuries.
