Hilary Rhoda and Sean Avery are expecting their first child together

The 32-year-old model and the former pro ice hockey player have confirmed they are having a son, and while they cannot wait for the "exciting" new chapter of their lives to begin, she admits trying to conceive nearly ended their marriage "once or twice"

She wrote on Instagram: "It's a boy @imseanavery and I are having a baby and we're so excited about this next chapter of life together (sic)"

And she added on Instagram Stories: "We're having a baby! The last year has been quite a journey* getting to this point, lots of ups & downs... but for those trying to conceive, all I can say is just keep going.

"*I really hate the word "journey" (I blame The Bachelor) but it fell appropriate in this context ha

"Trying to conceive is a mindf**k and might have almost ended our marriage once or twice (sic)"

Sean says he "never thought this day would come", and admits it has been a "roller coaster" getting to this stage after they suffered some miscarriages.

Speaking on his podcast 'No F***s Given', he said: "I can't tell you how excited I am to be a father. I'm going to be a father.

"I'm having a baby boy. I never thought this day would come. I mean, I always thought that it was going to happen at some point, but until it actually happens - you never really know.

"There's a lot of steps that go into becoming a parent and I went through a little bit of a roller coaster with my wife Hilary and she is a trooper. We've been together for 10 years.

"Going into the process, we've got two healthy partners and right out the gate, the first month that we were eligible to procreate, Hilary got pregnant.

"I said, 'That's great. That was easy.' I start planning."

But, tragically she suffered a miscarriage.

He added: "It's fairly common. She was amazing. That's not an easy process. We got back on the trail and now what do you know two months later, Hilary gets pregnant again and has another miscarriage."

The pair suffered "a few miscarriages" and he admits it was "tough" trying to get pregnant for a while, but they conceived after he had spent five weeks away shooting a film.

He said: "It was no longer a job. I haven't seen my wife in five weeks. So we're going to make love and what do you know. I stood up and said you're pregnant. We went through a difficult six months. I come back and we have real true passion and love and harmony."

The couple's news comes more than four years after they tied the knot in October 2015 at the Parrish Art Museum in The Hamptons.
