Rents rose last year at the fastest pace in more than a decade

Rents rose last year at the fastest pace in more than a decade

The rental component of the consumer price index jumped 3.1 percent in 2019.

That's the largest annual jump since 2008.

Stats NZ says the rise is likely caused by strong demand as well as new rental standards for landlords.
