The names have been released of two young Southlanders killed in a crash on Sunday

They were 21-year-old Shaun Hattrill and 19-year-old Nicola Henare - both of Mataura.

Emergency services were called to State Highway 1 near the town around 5pm.

Police say both of the victims were rear-seat passengers.

They're still looking to speak to anyone who saw a dark blue Holden Commodore - or a red Subaru Impreza - in the time leading up to the crash.
