The death toll from the Whakaari White Island eruption has risen to 21, after another death

Deputy Police Commissioner John Tims says the person died in Middlemore Hospital on Tuesday night, from injuries sustained during last month's eruption.

He says their name will released after wider family have been informed.

The official death toll now stands at 21 -- with 19 deaths in New Zealand and two in Australian hospitals.
