    Jail time for man who's been raiding Christchurch parking meters under cover of darkness


    Brent Davie broke into up to 40 parking machines over three-months from January last year - stealing at least 20-thousand dollars.

    The 46-year-old has admitted biking into central Christchurch at night with a jemmy bar tucked up his sleeve - forcing open the cash door of meters and removing the cash tin.

    He says he was stealing to feed his Ritalin, meth and gambling habits.

    In the Christchurch District Court yesterday, Judge Kevin Phillips sentenced Davie to a year in prison.
