A proposed increase in teachers' registration fee is being defended

Currently, registration for three years of teaching sits at 220 dollars but the teaching council is looking at increasing that to 470 dollars.
Albany Senior High School principal Claire Amos says other professionals such as midwives and social works have to pay a similar amount to the proposed increase.
She says while she wishes teachers could get paid a whole lot more, it's also about being a professional body and paying their way.
