29-year-old Dalbert Tin has been sentenced in Queenstown District Court on three careless driving charges
Noelene Tait died when Tin's rental car crashed into her as he drove towards central Queenstown last month.
A motorcyclist and Tin's wife were also injured.
As well as reparation to his victims - Judge Brandts-Giesen disqualified Tin from driving for 15 months - and he must not drive in New Zealand until he completes a driving test.
Tin earlier told the court he had no explanation for crossing the centre line - other than he might have been distracted by the scenery.
