A new GNS report says firefighters would be stopped from using the city's reservoirs after an earthquake, because they'd be needed for drinking water.
Jeremy Holmes from the Wellington Emergency Management Office says agencies are now all collaborating to form plans.
He says they can start looking at where they need water resources or if they can get funding for salt water pumps to use sea water.
Holmes says Wellington's particularly at risk to post-quake fires more so than other areas, due to its strong winds, steel slopes and old infrastructure.
