Heavy rain...up to warning levels...is expected for Fiordland, Westland, Buller and the headwaters of the Canterbury and Otago lakes and rivers.
Weatherwatch head forecaster Philip Duncan says winds are expected to pick up this morning.
He says it'll mostly affect Fiordland and Westland, so the warnings and messages are mostly intended for trampers and others in the outdoors.
Emergency Management Southland is keeping a close on the storm - and says while there will be rain it won't cause significant problems.
