A tropical low in the Gulf of Carpentaria is expected to intensify into Queensland's first cyclone of the season today - bringing dangerous winds and torrential rain

Cyclone Esther is predicted to turn into a category 1 system this afternoon - before strengthening as it crosses the Northern Territory.
Residents are being warned to expect wind gusts of more than 130 kilometres an hour along the coast - and up to 200 millimetres of rain.
A storm tide is also being forecast - which could cause flooding.
