Auckland Police say a tragedy was avoided on Sunday - after a kayaker fell from his boat

Auckland Police say a tragedy was avoided on Sunday - after a kayaker fell from his boat

Police responded to reports an empty kayak was floating near Browns Bay around mid afternoon.

The man was found by an Eagle helicopter three kilometres away - after more than an hour in the water.

Police say it's a reminder to be fully prepared and aware of weather conditions before heading out on the water.
