Otago's historic Dunedin Prison is gearing up for further restoration work

The Dunedin Prison Charitable Trust has been awarded a 100-thousand dollar grant from the Otago Community Trust for stage two of its restoration.
It's recognised internationally as a rare example of a purpose-built courtyard prison and is a Heritage-1 listed building.
Prison Trust chair, Owen Graham, says the grant's a big boost to the overall 660-thousand-dollar project cost of re-roofing the three cell block, plus a paint job.
They hope to get started by late September.
