32-year-old Venod Skantha was sentenced at the High Court in Dunedin yesterday - for the murder of 16-year-old Amber-Rose Rush.
But Skantha's lawyer - Jonathan Eaton QC - says he's maintaining his innocence.
He says Skantha extends his sincerest condolences to the Rush family - as he did at the time of Amber-Rose's death.
Eaton says Skantha will appeal on the basis there's been a miscarriage of justice.
