The pilot and passengers walked away without injury after their light plane today made a forced landing into mudflats near the South Island town of Motueka

Police were called to the scene close to State Highway 60 and Port Motueka just before nine this morning.

They say the pilot even waved out to emergency services as he walked around the plane.

A coastguard spokesman says the plane landed in an area of shallow water.
