12 March 2020
Fire and Emergency responded to a call at 8.20 about smoke coming from the Haywards Substation in Lower Hutt.
Crews have since discovered there was a small explosion in a switchyard, which has left more than 63-thousand properties without power in Hutt Valley, Wairarapa and Wellington.
Nobody was injured in the explosion, however it's unclear when power is due to be restored.
