The Blood Service is dealing with a sharp drop off in donors, and is asking eligible, fit and healthy New Zealanders to donate blood

The service says there's been a 30 percent increase in the number of cancellations and no shows - which it thinks could be because of concerns around coronavirus.
About 3500 donations are needed every week to keep up with demand across the country.
The Blood Service says unlike toilet paper, blood cannot be stockpiled, and whole blood only has a shelf life of 35 days.
