The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Magic have opened their ANZ netball premiership campaign with a 54-48 win over the Southern Steel in Dunedin

They trailed by two goals late in the third quarter before wresting back momentum and pulling away.

The All Blacks sevens are the latest team snaffled by the coronavirus outbreak.

Players have been told to stay away from training in Mount Maunganui due to two Australian squad members getting tested for the illness after the Vancouver leg of the World Series.

New Zealand played Australia in the final and the measures imposed are precautionary so players won't return to training until the results are confirmed.

None of the players have shown symptoms since arriving home.

The Warriors have felt the love from a number of rivals via strapping tape, training jerseys and balls as they continue life as the NRL's refugees.

The Auckland-based club have relocated themselves to the coastal New South Wales town of Kingscliff in preparation for Saturday's game with the Raiders on the Gold Coast.

Travel restrictions will keep them in Australia if they are to fulfil their fixtures.

The NRL's exploring what their season could look like without the Warriors should the club return home next week.

Chief executive Todd Greenberg says shifting to a 15-team competition is among the scenarios being considered.

Anton Cooper hopes he can still ride his bike around when he arrives home, even if it's by himself.

The mountain biker's scheduled to return to Christchurch from California tomorrow after his season was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Cooper will have to self-isolate for 14 days.

He'd hoped to ease back and watch sport that's still on, but now there's a vacuum.

A second confirmed case of coronavirus has been discovered in Formula One.

A Pirelli tyres team member tested positive at last weekend's cancelled race in Australia.

The news comes as McLaren confirmed their diagnosed British mechanic is "recovering well".

Fourteen other McLaren staff who came into contact with the infected individual remain in quarantine at the team's hotel in Melbourne.

Wellington's cricketers will accept their first Plunket Shield title in 16 years, regardless of how the silverware's been forged.

New Zealand Cricket has called off the season with two rounds left due to as part of coronavirus prevention.

The Firebirds had a 26-point advantage.

Glenn Pocknall's side also won the Super Smash T20 competition in his maiden season as coach.

School Sport New Zealand has suspended all events on its national calendar as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

This means rowing's Maadi Cup on Lake Ruataniwha, one of the biggest events in the southern hemisphere, is affected.

The decision will be reviewed on April 6.

The Champions League may be shortened to get it completed when football resumes after the coronavirus outbreak.

UEFA, who host the tournament, is set to postpone the 2020 Euros to allow the completion of league seasons.

It also wants to finish the Champions League and Europa seasons to satisfy broadcast contracts.

Two footballers have been dobbed in for socialising when they were meant to be in coronavirus self-isolation.

The Daily Mirror reports Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount was spotted playing five-a-side at a football park along with West Ham's Declan Rice, defying protocols which came into place last week.

The Women's Tennis Association has suspended play until May 2 as the coronavirus pandemic continues its unprecedented shutdown of world sport.
