Surf lifeguards are warning people to keep out of the water during lockdown - because they're in lockdown too

Yesterday afternoon, Raglan lifeguards were called to rescue a swimmer - and a Gisborne surfer suffered severe spinal injuries.

Surf Life Saving Northern Region chief executive Matt Williams says there's some emergency lifeguard crews available - but they'll only go out if tasked by Police.

Police and Coastguard are also using online surf report company Surf2Surf's web-cams to check surf spots and carparks for rule-breakers.
