In August 2018, an an intoxicated man punched an officer in the face, as he was being arrested for disorderly behaviour in central Auckland.
The officer kneed the man in the face during the arrest and punched him in the police van.
He then punched the man again in the police cell, pushing his head into a concrete block wall.
Superintendent Karyn Malthus says the officer's actions were disappointing - and not in line with the values of the organisation.
The officer was discharged without conviction, ordered to pay reparation to his victim - and he resigned from his position.
