Police will be stopping people at road blocks around the country today in case they're trying to sneak away for Easter

Police will be stopping people at road blocks around the country today in case they're trying to sneak away for Easter

They were out yesterday too, cracking down on people flouting lockdown rules, and turning motorists around.

In the Tasman district, south of Murchison, police stopped eight groups of travellers who were heading north for the Easter break, and turned them back to Christchurch.

In Auckland, police were stopping all cars entering and exiting Auckland's Southern Motorway.

There will be a checkpoint at Warkworth today, north of the city.

Other checkpoints have been set up north of Wellington.

There were 10 checkpoints across Southern District yesterday, but only a handful of motorists was turned around.
