Locals and surfers have clashed on an Auckland beach over Covid-19 lockdown rules

A man, who doesn't want to be named, photographed five surfers in the water at Takapuna Beach early this morning.
He says there was a heated discussion between one surfer and a resident, which ended with a rude hand signal from the surfer.
The man says Takapuna residents are fed up with surfers using the beach and are worried it will be shut down.
Police have spoken to other surfers at Piha and Muriwai beaches in Auckland, and Gisborne.
Activities like surfing, hunting and tramping aren't allowed during the lockdown because they could take up the time of emergency services who may need to help people with coronavirus.
