Firewood supplies would have completely dried up in Canterbury next week, if timber mills hadn't been allowed to increase essential production

Forestry Minister Shane Jones says a phased increase will start in some wood processing this week, after a stocktake revealed firewood and other products were due to be exhausted by Wednesday.
He's allowed mills to truck in trees already felled for critical processing, but harvesting remains prohibited.
