Vehicle traffic is expected to significantly increase this week as the country shifts down alert levels.
Dozens of near-misses on Wellington's south coast roads during the lockdown have prompted temporary speed limits of 30 k's an hour to be introduced.
City Councillor Laurie Foon says while drivers need to slow down - pedestrians and cyclists need to use common sense too.
She says they all need to be extra aware whether on bikes or while walking to keep social distancing, but be prepared for more cars.
