The vehicle was reported stolen about half past seven this morning from Lappington Road in Otara.
A short time later police tried to stop it on Bairds Road but the driver sped off, and officers followed.
The milk truck was spiked and then hit a power pole at low speed on Great South Road, Papatoetoe.
Police previously said a man had been charged but now say it was a woman.
A 29-year-old-old woman's been charged with failing to stop, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, and reckless driving.
