Five Corrections staff have undergone tests for COVID-19 - after coming into contact with a prisoner who tested positive for the coronavirus

Five Corrections staff have undergone tests for COVID-19 - after coming into contact with a prisoner who tested positive for the coronavirus

The woman was at Auckland Women's Prison, and only tested positive for the over the weekend - after being released on bail.

She'd been jailed for 10 days after refusing a test when she arrived in Auckland from the United States.

Corrections Association president Alan Whitley says it's not yet known whether any Corrections staff have COVID-19.

He says he's spoken to a staff member who's still waiting for their test results.

Whitley says they're confident in the PPE and processes that were in place.

Yesterday, Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said Corrections have done very well to keep people inside their facilities safe.
