The woman was at Auckland Women's Prison, and only tested positive for the over the weekend - after being released on bail.
She'd been jailed for 10 days after refusing a test when she arrived in Auckland from the United States.
Corrections Association president Alan Whitley says it's not yet known whether any Corrections staff have COVID-19.
He says he's spoken to a staff member who's still waiting for their test results.
Whitley says they're confident in the PPE and processes that were in place.
