Fiordland's Routeburn and Milford tracks sustained the most damage.
They're being rebuilt through a 13.7 million dollar Budget investment.
Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage says the reconstruction of the walks will help boost the tourism industry and the economy.
She says it's critical that the infrastructure is re-established, because the tracks bring a lot of people to Southland.
