People in the upper North Island are being warned to tie down trampolines and take care driving, with strong winds and heavy rain about to hit

Slips, flooding and fast-rising rivers are possible - and forecasters say unusual easterly winds could also catch people off guard, with the potential to damage trees, lift roofs and cut power.

A severe weather warning has been issued for the Coromandel, which has already experienced heavy rain overnight.
