An 81-year-old former Catholic brother and school teacher has been sentenced to nine months' home detention for sexually abusing three Wairarapa children more than 40 years ago

Kevin Peter John Healy, known as Brother Gordon when he was teaching, initially denied the charges and unsuccessfully sought a stay of the prosecution because of his age and failing health.

In February he pleaded guilty to five charges relating to a brother and sister - and another boy.

The girl was 8 or 9 and the boys were 12 and 13 at the time of the offending in 1976 and 1977.
