Calls for road user charge increases to be delayed until next year in the wake of covid-19

A National Road Carriers petition asking the Government to delay the increase has garnered more than eight thousand signatures in just 24 hours.
The 5.3 percent increase is planned to take place on July 1.
National Road Carriers Chief Executive David Aitken says it's poor timing after the trucking industry delivered essential items throughout the lockdown.
He says a lot of money is being given to other sectors - which is good - but it feels like a kick in the guts for the freight sector.
