Children in our most deprived areas have better dental health if the water is fluoridated

Children in our most deprived areas have better dental health if the water is fluoridated

University of Canterbury research has tracked the association between community water fluoridation and severe dental issues in children - as well as the impact of being in areas of high deprivation.

Research leader, Dr Matt Hobbs, says oral health has wider benefits - including less time at the dentists and more time in school.

He says they've found tangible and important associations relating fluoridated water to reduced dental hospitalisations in children up to 12.
