Lockdown has lifted for two far North schools - after police found no signs of a man reported carrying a gun in the area

Students at Kaitaia College and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Pukemiro have been allowed back to class.

Police were searching the area - after reports a man with a firearm was behind one of the schools.

A spokesperson says they haven't found anyone of interest - and they believe the man has left the area in a vehicle.

Police are asking anyone with information to get in touch.
