    A plea for public help to find an escaped teenage murderer


    16-year-old Haami Hanara fled from a youth justice facility in South Auckland on Saturday, and is still on the run.

    He's serving a life sentence for the 2018 murder of Flaxmere man Kelly Donner in Hawke's Bay.

    Flaxmere ward councillor Henare O'Keefe says it's best for the public - and the teen himself - that he's returned to custody.

    He says there's not a lot of sympathy out there, so the young man should be brought back to where he should be....away from the angst of the community.

    Police say Hanara has friends and family in Counties Manukau, Hamilton, Flaxmere, Hastings, Whakatane and Whanganui.
