An Auckland meatworks has been fined 46 thousand dollars after a worker got raw offal in their eye
8 July 2020
The Affco worker was cleaning up a 10 tonne offal spill when some of it squirted into his eye.
A month later he was hit with a life-threatening bacterial infection, and had to undergo cardiac surgery.
A WorkSafe investigation found Affco didn't provide safety glasses or face shields, and didn't ensure workers wore them.
They've been ordered to pay the man 50 thousand dollars.
